homemade crackers

Making your crackers is so easy! You can use pretty much any herbs and seasonings that you like, plus you can add seeds to give them extra taste, texture and a little boost of vitamins too. If you want to keep it real simple you can even make them with just salt & pepper.

You can either make these in one big piece and break it apart with your hands or cut them prior to baking. Keep them in your pantry and enjoy with dips and spreads. I like to make these with zaatar, turmeric and sesame seeds. So delish!

RECIPE:

This makes about 2.5 to 3 cups worth

1 cup wholemeal flour (or all purpose flour)

1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp zaatar

1 tbsp nutritional yeast or vegan parmesan

Pinch of turmeric

1/2 tsp olive oil

1 tsp sesame seeds

1 cup water

  1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees celsius.

  2. In a bowl combine all the ingredients and mix together with your hands to form a dough. Knead for 2-3 mins.

  3. Place the ball of dough on a piece of baking paper, fold the paper over and start to flatten the dough out with a rolling pin. Once it start to get thinner, unfold the paper and continue to roll out the dough. You want to go as thin as possible.

  4. Sprinkle the seeds on top and press them in. You can either cut it into pieces or leave it as one big piece. Place in the oven and bake for 10-12 mins until golden on both sides. The edges will start to brown but you don't want it to brown too much.

  5. Turn off the heat and leave it in there for another 30 mins to an hour - the longer you leave them, the crispier they will get.

  6. Remove from the oven and break apart. Store in a container at room temperature and enjoy!
